Romanian Wedding Cultures

A wedding is one of the few times when romanian persons genuinely go all out and clothing up. Fancy suit for men, dresses and gowns for women and coiffed tresses and extensive nails are all the rule. The event is also a time to bring presents of wealth and displays for the bride and groom, which they collect as they leave the church and breakfast greeting.

After the bread is served a unique dancing known as “hora” is performed. The wedding and all adult friends start to dancing. Males may add but they have to give a small sum of money and the collected amount goes to the wedding.

Close to the end of the wedding reception a tradition is performed whereby the couple’s godmother takes off the marital veil. The bride is supposed to hesitate and ‘ struggle’ against it ( three instances at least ) and then she romanian girl is lastly allowed to take off the shawl. This is to express the transfer from a child to a committed person who will take care of her father and forthcoming kids.

If you are invited to a romanian bride you can expect a pretty long day of drinking and having. It is not uncommon for the party to last up to 10 hours and there are often 4 courses plus dessert. It is very important to wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of dancers and a lot of food and drinks served. There may be special events during the celebration too such as the one girl who catches the bridal flower and the separately person who catches the lace.
